Sue Willis, General Manager, Zinc 96.1 FM
Sue is a long-time resident of the Sunshine Coast and initially developed her career here as a Graphic Designer. In her early days Sue worked as a Creative Director on projects for Tourism Qld and Fraser Coast Tourism, before making the move into media.
She joined Australian media giant APN News & Media in 1999, enjoying a country sabbatical as General Manager of the Western Star in Roma before returning to the company’s flagship, the Sunshine Coast Newspaper Company for three years, where she worked as Retail Advertising Manager, across their stable of products, including the Sunshine Coast Daily and Revive Magazine.
It was during this time at just 35 years of age, that Sue was diagnosed with breast cancer – an aggressive tumour – and an early diagnosis that saved her life. Sue managed her illness and subsequent treatment, together with her demanding role in corporate life as a wife and mother, with the support of her employer, family and friends.
Today, two years on Sue remains cancer free and has taken on a new challenge a little closer to home, as the General Manager of the coast’s newest radio station Zinc 96.1. She is enjoying a more conducive work life balance as she resides in Noosa with her husband and two children, Sam (15) and Olivia (7). Sue is President of the Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Network Board.
